Happy birthday to my princess baby.

Two years ago today you came into mine and your papa's life. I couldn't imagine a funnier, cuter, and more incredible person. Your toes are beyond cute, your little curls take my breath away, and I love that you never stop talking. And that you say "Mama" with a little accent. And that laugh that you do when you get all excited. And that you love to play seepies.

I'm back

OH HI GUYS.

I AM BACK FROM NEW YORK CITY.

ME AND BABE AND BUDDY ALL MADE IT SAFELY AND IN ONE PIECE.

AS I'VE SAID TO MANY, ARRIVING IN NEW YORK CITY WAS LIKE RETURNING HOME FROM A YEAR-LONG VACATION. WHICH SAYS GOOD THINGS BOTH ABOUT CALIFORNIA AND NEW YORK CITY.

WE HAD THE BEST TIME EVER. IT WAS LIKE WE HAD NEVER LEFT, BUT PEOPLE HAD CLEARLY MOVED FORWARD IN THEIR LIVES IN A VERY POSITIVE WAY. WE MET A FEW NEW BOYFRIENDS, A NEW BABY, AND WITNESSED AND PARTICIPATED IN A GLORIOUS BROOKLYN WEDDING.

PICS, ANECDOTES, AND HAIKU TO FOLLOW. PROBABLY A NUMBERS, TOO. FOR NOW, I AM BACK AT WORK. IT IS 75 DEGREES, THE PRODUCE IN MY LUNCH IS FRESH AND DELICIOUS AND WE ALL SLEPT FOR AT LEAST 10 HOURS LAST NIGHT.

Ophthomologist
This morning for my gross eye.
Minor surgery.

Good, Bad, Ugly

Good

• Buddy is cute and funny. She chooses her own outfits now, so she's often wearing a lot of different colors.
• Babe is also cute and funny.
• I am going to NYC in less than a week!
• I gave blood yesterday! You get four hours of comp time for giving blood, so right on! Do a good deed, get a half day off work. Nothing wrong with that. 

Bad

• My attitude. Really. I've never endured such working conditions before - tyrant, dictator, micromanager, and it really makes me furious. 
• Time has sped up to the point that I literally cannot get anything done ever.
• I was so sad and grouchy last night I just didn't even do the dishes, so had to do gross dirty water dishes this morning. MOODY CODDIE WHAT IS A MATTER WITH YOU?

Ugly

• Fifth stye on my eye in three months. Going to the ophthalmologist tomorrow. Not only are they disgustingly hideous but they are really just beyond painful. The only thing I can really relate it to is something like a bad toothache, there's not much you can do about it and it's always there. It effing sucks.
• Buddy has a bad cough. Why? I don't know. But last night she woke me up with her coughing at 3:30 in the morning, so I spent the next twenty minutes in the steamy bathroom patting her back and rocking her. She woke up crying at 5:20, also, but fell back asleep. I sincerely hope last night was the worst of it.

Numbers

• I have a feeling it is going to take me all day to get this blog post written. I've had the blank post open for at least one hour so far.
• This past weekend was dreamy. Dreamy I say! Friday night, we watched two episodes of Friday Night Lights! We've watched the show before, but not for awhile, and only once. I am not kidding when I say top five shows ever to show its face on TV.
• Saturday we took it easy all day and did Babe and Cod and Buddy stuff. Like, I went to the mall for a bit and then about six garage sales. We took a wee bike ride. I played with Buddy. We took family nap. It was glorious. 
• The Fridays came over and we played Dart (just one) and had a campfire and told stories. It was too much fun.
• On Sunday, we went to the Farmer's Market and ate delicious food. Me and Babe shared a breakfast burrito, and buddy had some too! We also got one blackberry pie that was to die for. 
• We then drove down to Hemet to see the In Laws. It was a quick one hour and a half each way! Nice. 
• We got home at 8:25 and were literally asleep by 8:35. Wow. What a weekend!

Haiku Friday

Asked Babe this morning.

"Do I look like a

dorky teenager in this?"

He smiled kindly.

"No, Babe! You look like

a dorky thirty-four year

Numbers

1. This past weekend, I spent some time with my four girls from college.
2. Me and three girls and a baby took a drive up from San Francisco to Humboldt, California. That drive takes about 5 and a half hours. It definitely took us more like eight. We were pretty rowdy, even though our demeanor is usually so prim and proper. 
3. We drove over the Golden Gate bridge and up the 101. It was epic and beautiful.
4. We got to Humboldt sometime around 3 in the morning. Honest to god. We of course partied a bit, met the tiny 8 week old sweet pea (that's one of the nice things about visiting newborns and their parents, they are always up!), and mom, dad and bebe went to bed around 4. We stayed up a little bit longer.
5. On Saturday, we had some real sad shit to deal with, and the baby's daddy had to take off to be with his family, so we dealt in the way we know best. We cooked for the first half of the day, then ate for the second half. We talked and laughed and walked and cooked and drank and ate. We held the babies, we sang a lot of songs, we took a lot of pictures, we reminisced, and made new memories.
6. On Sunday, we began our journey home. Journeying with two babies, one only two months old is no joke. I'm sure glad we were there to help tootsie out. We loaded up her car, cleaned up the pad and rolled down the 101. We got about an hour and a half before we stopped the first time. Ha! Then, another hour and a half before we stopped the second time. We were able to cruise through the next three or so hours without stopping. We got to just before the golden gate at about 4:30, and we had just about an hour to get to the airport. GUS drove us as if she were the getaway driver, and we made it to the San Francisco airport at 5:45. A smooth hour and ten before we needed to fly away. Perfect! 
7. Of course, our plane was delayed. We were delayed about an hour and a half, so we had some dinner and decompressed a bit. 
8. All in all, I was home at 11pm on Sunday night. About 13 hours after I had left Humboldt. 13 hours - never leaving the state of California. 
9. The trip was unforgettable. Sad, brilliant, happy, funny. The five of us girls haven't been together like that since college, or maybe the year after. That woulda been about 2000, so you know. It's been awhile. 

Weekend Pictures, Humboldt Edition

Took a trip this weekend to see Tootsie's baby, and the newest member of our family, Opal Jane. The first leg of the race was me and one half of the LBC crew. This is the baby, Luci.

We arrived to Humboldt very late on Friday night, to some tragic news. Despite the very sad events surrounding the day, you can see how beautiful and content this family is.

We all got to take turns holding the sweet little tiny baby. Here is Gustav telling her some important information.

This is Wiley. He is one of the best dogs I've ever met in my life. That is all.

Have you ever been to Humboldt? If not, it is worth the trip. It is absolutely stunning. This is just a little walk we took to go to the Safeway to buy more wine.
